The whole world has stopped for a while and, so, many businesses had to temporarily close their doors. Same goes for cinemas, Unfortunately. Instead, what has never stopped is the desire to enjoy the seventh art in all its forms. And so, in this lockdown period due to Covid-19 there are numerous films streamed on online platforms. Among these there is also, therefore, The revenge, work before the acclaimed theater director Leo Muscato.
But what is it about, in particular, The revenge? The revenge, set entirely in Martina Franca, in Puglia, and based on the novel of the same name by Michele Santeramo, tells the story of two brothers - Vincenzo and Sabino - who, after inheriting a house and land from their father respectively, they face serious economic difficulties and do not know how to pay their debts and support their families. Vincenzo would like a son and is forced to ask for money from a loan shark, Sabino - who already has a son - is always forced to ask, your back, money on loan to brother.
The things, for the two, they always seem to go from bad to worse and for them there seems to be no hope for a better future.
Realistic, disenchanted, with a clean and honest script, this Muscato debut is capable of infusing the spectator with heavy moral shocks interspersed, from time to time, even from some decidedly lighter moment in which some bitter laughter is torn from us.
E se, for the duration of the feature film, it is above all a very essential direction, but also quite mature as an absolute protagonist, unfortunately this Muscato job ends up limping right in the end, when - despite a rather powerful basic idea - everything is treated a little too superficially. But anyhow.
If you think of the present Revenge as a debut, we can certainly appreciate its undoubted validity and a directing gaze that certainly is, in the future, will give us some nice surprises.
