a recognition with which every year ShorTS International Film Festival confirms and highlights the extraordinary talent of Italian filmmakers.
ShorTS International Film Festival, organized by the Maremetraggio Association, scheduled this year on the web since 4 al 12 July 2020, announces the online Masterclass by Saverio Costanzo, acclaimed director of the TV series "The brilliant friend".
The meeting, free and open to the public, will take place online on the Zoom platform on Thursday 9 July: the details of the Masterclass and the methods of participation will be published soon on social channels and on the official website of the Festival.
"During the online Masterclass we will dialogue with Saverio Costanzo on inspirations and development of his original introspective gaze as an author" – Maurizio di Rienzo and Chiara Valenti Homer explain, directors of ShorTS International Film Festival- "Which focuses dramaturgical nuances expressed by bodies and souls framed in contexts" out of this world ": a Palestinian family held hostage by an invasive Israeli patrol (‘Private’, Pardo d’oro at the Locarno Film Festival 2005, Nastro d’Argento works first); a Jesuit isolated between doubts and vocation in a Venetian convent ('In memory of me'); the circle of solitude and incommunicability that contains fears, disillusioni, secrets in which two souls finally twins live for years ('The loneliness of prime numbers'); the cage house in New York where the educational psychologies of two young parents stir (‘Hungry hearts’, Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival 2014 to the protagonists Alba Rohrwacher and Adam Driver); the study of a psychotherapist in turn in a critical phase (the three seasons of the 'In treatment' series); Naples is full of affective feminine essence reworked with powerful sensitivity beyond the original literary system (the two seasons of the series 'The brilliant friend'). They are places of films detailed in architecture and open to extreme emotions and in which the natural union between remarkable interpretations and metronomic direction stands out”.

Born in Rome in 1975, Saverio Costanzo is one of the most appreciated authors on the Italian cinema scene. In 2004 he directs his first feature film, “Private”, winner of the Pardo d’Oro and the prize for the Best Actor at the Locarno International Festival, then sold in addition 25 countries.
In the summer of 2006 make the film “In memory of me”, shot on San Giorgio Maggiore Island in Venice. The film was selected in competition at the Berlinale in 2007. The 2010 it's the year of his third feature film, “The loneliness of prime numbers”, based on the novel of the same name by Paolo Giordano, which has sold over two million copies in Italy and has been translated into more than thirty languages. The film participated in competition at the 67. Venice International Film Festival.
In 2014 directs “Hungry Hearts” starring Alba Rohrwacher and Adam Driver. The film was presented in competition at the Venice Film Festival where it won two Volpi Cups for the interpretations of the two protagonists. The director then directs the Italian adaptation of “In Treatment” Season 1, 2 e 3, the homonymous HBO series based on the Israeli format created by Hagai Levi. In 2018 Saverio Costanzo directed the first two seasons of the Rai Fiction-HBO series “The brilliant friend”, taken from the first two books of the homonymous quadrifonia by Elena Ferrante published in Italy by Edizioni E / O.
