The International Festival of New Cinema, in addition to putting online about 40 past editions films for the #iorestoacasa initiative, has constantly followed the health emergency situation to evaluate how to carry out its 56th edition safely. Now, with the latest decree of the President of the Council of Ministers which allows the reopening of cinemas, it is possible for the festival to organize the new edition, to be held in Pesaro from 22 al 29 August 2020, following all health and safety procedures while respecting the health of workers and spectators.

"It will be a special edition - says the director Pedro Armocida - organized in a form adapted to the possibilities of the moment and in which outdoor spaces such as cinema in the square will be privileged. It will be an even more attentive exhibition to the new cinema thanks to the selection of the international competition that this year will host works of all sizes, time, and not just of first-time authors and authors. In short, a total opening to the new and to the most different cinema that from all over the world will find its rightful place in Pesaro. I thank the selection committee (Paola Cassano, Cecilia Ermini, Anthony Hector and Raffaele Meale), for the prolonged work of watching the films we are doing together ».

In accordance with the programmatic lines decided with the scientific committee (Bruno Torri, President, Pedro Armocida, Laura Buffoni, Andrea Minuz, Mauro Santini, Boris Sollazzo, Gianmarco Torri and Walter Veltroni), the exhibition has already announced the special event, in collaboration with the Experimental Center of Cinematography, dedicated to Giuliano Montaldo that this year has accomplished 90 years. In addition to the retrospective of his films, the tribute includes a round table and a monographic publication edited by Pedro Armocida and Caterina Taricano published by Marsilio in the Nuovocinema series founded by Lino Miccichè.

The organization of the 56th International Festival of New Cinema, to carry out the event safely, will follow all national and regional directives in concert with the city of Pesaro: Mayor Matteo Ricci and the deputy mayor and councilor for beauty Daniele Vimini that declares: "Confirmation of the edition 2020 of the New Cinema Show is great news. Piazza del Popolo, the Experimental Theater and also the beach ready to welcome film fans and students, a very strong sign of recovery and a period of the year, immediately after the Rossini Opera Festival, in which Pesaro has always shown a particular charm ».
