New Wave, the official section of the festival, will present the best films of the last season, tra le prime anticipazioni: "In exchange for nothing", commedia sociale di Daniel Guzmán che sarà ospite a Roma, cool winner of 2 Goya Award 2016 (Best Newcomer Director and Best Revelation Actor for Miguel Herrán). Protagonist of the film, l’adolescente Dario che, dopo il divorzio dei genitori, passa le giornate per strada bighellonando con il suo migliore amico. All’inizio dell’estate decide di fuggire di casa, per provare a cambiare prima
di essere costretto a farlo.
Another feature film in the program "Magical girl" by Carlos Vermut, Miglior Film e Miglior Regia al Festival di San Sebastián e vincitore del Premio Goya per la Miglior Attrice per Barbara Lennie. Praised by Pedro Almodóvar as “a jewel: the greatest revelation of the Spanish cinema of the last 20 years", il film narra la storia di Luis, un professore di letteratura disoccupato che vuole esaudire il desiderio
di sua figlia Alicia: indossare l’abito ufficiale della serie manga Magical Girl Yukiko. Il prezzo del vestito è però troppo alto per le risorse di Luis che è dunque costretto a cercare il denaro come può. Lo farà attraverso Barbara, affascinante e misteriosa ragazza, conosciuta una notte per caso.

The festival, organizzato da EXIT med!a and directed by Iris Martín-Peralta and Federico Sartori, riceve il sostegno dalle maggiori istituzioni spagnole: Embassy of Spain, The ICAA, Spanish Cultural Action, Spanish Tourist Office, Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, and Cervantes Institute in Rome and Milan.
